Deep dive into monday.com

1. Core features

Workspaces and boards:

At the heart of monday.com are its workspaces and boards, designed to help teams organize projects and streamline operations.

Workspaces serve as centralized hubs and house boards that teams can customize to suit various workflows.

Boards represent projects, and teams can create, assign, and track tasks (called "pulses") within them.

This hierarchy provides flexibility but may require initial effort to configure and optimize for specific team needs.

Visualizations:

Monday.com provides different ways to visualize projects. Gantt charts, Kanban boards, and timeline views are available. These tools help you easily track project progress.

These visuals help make things clear, especially for projects with tight deadlines. However, users often see that advanced reporting or customization costs more.

Workflow automation:

A significant advantage of monday.com is its automation features. It offers many pre-made "recipes" to make repetitive tasks easier. These tasks include sending alerts, changing task statuses, and creating new entries.

These functionalities conserve time. However, some users find the automation recipes hard to understand. This is especially true for complex workflows. In contrast, platforms like Formaloo focus on advanced logic and flexibility.

Communication & collaboration:

Monday.com enhances team communication through in-task comments, @mentions, and updates, keeping conversations contextual. Users can also upload and share files directly within tasks.

The platform depends a lot on integrations for advanced collaboration features. This encompasses live chat and instant editing. In these areas, platforms like Formaloo offer built-in tools.

Resource management:

With tools for resource allocation, workload management, and time tracking, monday.com helps teams balance their resources effectively. Managers can visualize workloads across team members and identify bottlenecks. These features are useful but may not be sufficient for teams needing highly customizable resource tracking.

2. Use cases

Project management:

Many teams widely use Monday.com as a project management tool, supporting methodologies like Agile and Waterfall.

Teams can create sprints, track milestones, and manage backlogs efficiently. For teams that need more data collection and form-based workflows, Formaloo may provide better integration and automation.

Marketing & sales:

Marketing teams use monday.com to manage campaigns, sales pipelines, and client communications. Its ability to integrate with CRMs makes it a strong choice for sales teams.

However, it does not have the form-building flexibility of Formaloo. Formaloo allows for customized lead generation workflows and data-driven campaigns.

HR & operations:

HR teams use Monday.com for tasks like recruitment, onboarding, and performance management. It also helps streamline internal operations such as procurement or facilities management.

While effective, its HR features are not as specialized as Formaloo’s. Formaloo offers advanced logic, approval forms, and survey tools designed for HR needs.

3. Pricing & plans

While monday.com offers a competitive pricing model, many advanced features like automation, analytics, and dashboards are locked behind higher pricing tiers.

Formaloo offers a pricing structure that is more inclusive. It ensures that core features are available in all plans. This makes it a better option for businesses of any size.
